Figures you only work in a mailroom.Ineffective? How many bus routes have you changed that resulted in headways being decreased from every 10, 15, or 20 minutes to every 3 minutes? How much money have you saved the mailroom? I saved the MTA $4 million singlehandedly by catching an overpayment to a contractor that no one in Accounting had spotted. |

But there are locations where there is a divider and traffic is going in the same direction on both sides. The road then eventually splits off into two different directions. However that wasn't the case this time. But a driver there for the first time would not know that. |

Then you don't see a problem with a sign that says "Arlington" that immediately sends you over a bridge to Arlington. So if you are on the BQE and see a sign saying "Manhattan" you would have no problem if all of a sudden you find yourself on the Brooklyn Bridge when your intended destination is Downtown Brooklyn? |

I don't know what street you turned off of, but if you turned off of Independence Avenue, then you turned the wrong way, an impressive feat considering the Washington Monument is the tallest building near the intersection in question and quite visible, and also considering the Washington Monument isn't in Arlington and most people ought to know that, even tourists. If you turned left anywhere else, you passed the Washington Monument, still the tallest building by far in the area in question, so it is unclear how you missed it. Unless you were looking for parking, which is just a bad idea, why not use mass transit? (And DC signage often is left to be desired, but still, I don't get how you pulled this one off).Your anecdotes in this thread don't instill the least bit of confidence in your navigation, driving, or decision making abilities IMHO... |

I was only a quarter-mile away and couldn't figure out how to get there from the map because the street was cut up into so many pieces. It's only in three pieces. And to get between them, you just head one block north, one block east/west, then one block south. It's not exactly Queens. |

I wasn't quite at the bridge when I saw the sign that it was out about one mile before. However I had to backtrack several miles to get to the alternate road I needed. The sign was placed at the last intersection and that road did me no good.Of course I notice one-way signs, detour signs, and pathfinding signs if they are correctly placed. |

Posted by BrooklynBus on Mon Aug 8 12:42:02 2011, in response to Re: OT = Signage and Customer Service, posted by WMATAGMOAGH on Mon Aug 8 10:31:21 2011. I don't remember the name of the street. It was the one on the southern side of the Mall. The monument was visible until you were within a few blocks of it. When I reached 14th Street, the left lane suddenly became a left turn only lane with no advance warning saying Arlington. I thought I needed to turn right but the center and left lanes were both turning left and I couldn't get out. Anyway I didn't think I would end up on the Bridge and thought I could just make a right on the next block. If I knew it was Arlington only, I would have tried harder to change lanes but I don't think it would have been possible unless I would just stopped and waited to the ire of those behind me. So I ended up seeing the Iwo Jima monument first and the Washington Monument on the way back.If you think the Washington Monument is always visible try standing right outside the Empire State Building and see how obvious it appears to be. It looks like any other tall building. |

In stop and go traffic drivers are sometimes more considerate and let you in especially when an exit is coming up. At 30 mph and there is a gap of 3 car lengths, you have to force your way in leaving only one car length ahead and behind so everyone is now tailgating and that's dangerous. |
