Perhaps they either ran out of "S" and "T" tiles or realized that it didn't look good on the other side.

Also, on another note of station renovation, yesterday I saw the entrances at Jay St near the Fulton Mall, and they now read, "Jay St-Metrotech", the new name of that complex. Borough Hall will finally be removed, likewise for Lawrence St.
