In Israel, they often can't afford it. The ultra-Orthodox are often quite poor. The two of the poorest cities in Israel are Bnei Brak and Jerusalem. Bnei Brak has a population of over 165,000 with a density of 60,541 people per square mile, making it the densest city in all of Israel. In the 2006 election, 89% of voters in Bnei Brak voted for Haredi parties, another 7% voted for other religious parties. Does that tell you something about the makeup of the city and their economic situation?
