You're taking the obsessions of a (admitidly vocal) minority and attributing their views to the majority of sane Orthodox Jews. The vast majority of observant ("Dati") Jews in Israel are dead set against the idiocy of separate seating on buses or or separate light rail cars (to at least bring this back on-topic); it's only because of the vocal protestations of the ultra-Hareidi populace that this condition exists at all. I say ultra-Hareidi deliberately; as a resident of an area with a substantial Hareidi population, I can say that the majority in my area, and a significant percentage (I don't have enough data to say a majority) of Hareidim throughout Israel, do not agree with this. For reference (and on-topic), see the writings of Rabbi M. Feinstein on riding the NYC subway when it's crush-loaded (he says it's absolutely permitted, and that anyone with modesty issues in such circumstances should seek medical assistance for his mental health).subfan |
