Funny, we have fiber optic, and high capacity cable. The companies put them in around the same time each trying to be first, assuming that the company there first would get the business.

We use the telco for our phone and internet connection, both of which are 100% fiber optic. The telco even installed the optic cable from their phone drop to the closet where I keep my main NIC switch, a little over 300' on their own dime. Outages are rare. I could get faster service if I paid more.

We also have cable TV service, big thick new cable all through town.

Actually if I were to upgrade my bandwidth I would do it through the cable provider since that would give me two routes to the backbone.

You can get all services from either provider, but cable providers do not like servers on their customers networks. The phone company is ok with my running servers, and I can also relay through their MX at no cost.

LION thinks you need reliable companies in your town. The cable provider is Mid-Continent, and the telco provider is Consolidated (CTCTEL), a rural cooperative.
