BMT Southern Division jacked up |

Posted by Randyo on Tue Aug 31 21:45:15 2010 I'm surprised nobody else posted this, but around 530PM this evening S/B R service between 59/4 and 95 St was not operating due to a stalled train at 77 St S/B. From what I was told it was an R-160. There were S/B R trains held at 36 St, 45 St, 55 St and 59 St. At about the same time D trains were operating via the N line, according to the train crews due to signal problems. That would probably explain why at least the R trains N/O 36 St were not sent to 9 Ave to turn. Shortly after at about 600PM, a S/B N went BIE at 86 St and no sooner did that problem clear up, another S/B N went BIE over the switches S/O 36 St. That may or may not explain why no attempt was made to turn and S/B Rs at either 36 or 59 St. I was originally on a S/B R that was held at 36 St but rode to 59 St on an N to catch up with the R being held there. While I was at 36 St, a TSS was instructed to proceed to the BO train by bus but he wasn't familiar with the bus services in the area so fortunately I was able to explain to him where he could get the B^# 5 Av bus and which stop was the closest on 5 Av for the 77 St station. The BIEs on the N I mentioned happened after I got to 59 St The C/R on that R was a cheerful lady who did the best she could to make announcement to the passengers and explain alternative bus services to get the passengers as close as possible to their destinations. Although I didn't pay much attention to what was going on with the D snafu, after about 30 min delay, Ns started moving and R service resumed about 720PM or so. Although MOW might take some hit for the problems on the D Line, Car Equipment will probably take a bigger hit for the lengthy R delay. |
