No, but this foolishness re: gender-segregated public transport is not generally an initiative of the Rabbis; rather, it is an initiative of self-appointed "community leaders" (called "Askanim" in Hebrew), who present issues of religious law ("Halacha") to the Rabbis in a way designed to elicit an answer that the "leaders" want. These individuals give Orthodox Judaism a bad name. If these individuals want to accept an unnecessary religious stringency on themselves, that's fine; the issue is when they try to impose it on others.BTW, to those posters who expressed concern about visiting Israel - it's much, much safer than you'd think from the news. As I have told people who have asked me if I'm afraid to live in Israel, "I live in Israel, not on CNN"! subfan |
