I can agree with all of that, but I'd add that light rail ridership is also limited by the street running parts. For example in LA the blue line (which is already close to capacity at rush hour) will never run more than 12 tph or trains longer than 3 cars long. Still if I had to choose whether I would want two parallel light rail lines a mile or two apart or one heavy rail line, I'd choose the two lines.And BTW I think that the average speed on LA's light rail lines may be faster than the NYC subway and only slightly slower than the LA subway. Though some parts of the light rail system are very slow. |
