I'm having a blast tracing the EXACT path of the Whitestone Branch, then phasing over to the 2006 view, and seeing the little hints in today's landscape that shows the path of the ROW, such as the size of some houses' backyards, and the curves of warehouses that are still standing today.

The very beginning of the Cross Island Parkway just off the Whitestone Expressway follows the ROW. Whitestone Landing, the final stop of the LIRR, and its train yard, are now a large shopping center in Whitestone off 154th Street & 10th Avenue, with a Waldbaum's. It makes sense that today's larger commercial developments were able to use so much land thanks to the abandoned railways.

Also, take a look at where the White Plains Road Line and Third Avenue El meet in the Bronx, near today's 3 Avenue - 149 Street Station. Now compare it to today's structure where the (2) and (5) enter the portal. Doesn't it look like the portal was moved, and the (2) and (5) now take the "diverging" tracks that used to connect to the el, except now they go underground after turning southwest?
