Then either you walk extremely fast or the A train used to travel at least 15 mph faster on average (not top speed -- average speed including stops) than it does now.

More likely, it felt faster. Which is fine, but think also about how it feels to be unable to board the train further down the line because there aren't enough locals, or about how it feels to waste a minute at each local stop while the conductor fights to get the doors closed because the people on the train don't quite fit. Except there it's also reality, not just feeling.
