It still doesn't make sense when you've got perfectly good overhead catenary running all the way into Penn Station. The only reason you'd use the LIRR third rail would be to store trains at West Side Yard.Keep in mind that once all of the M8s are in, I'm sure that NJT will request the MNR use their own equipment for Meadowlands service, which would most likely be M8s. You have to use the overhead for NYP to SEC regardless. |
