On some of the older trains the riders have to pull a lever to open each individual door once the driver has enabled them

Paris metro is one of my favorite.

The newer cars like the ones on the 14 are articulated and the train feels wide open and airy vs nyc cramped

Stations are dirtier than NYC when I was there in 2001
