From a previous message: "I would like to ask him where the logic is in building a subway line to the Javits Center which he wants, when the MTA says its bus to the Javits Center from 42nd Street is underutilized and are proposing to eliminate it."

Simple, it is not only about the Javits Center, but it is about that new residential development to be built above the LIRR train yard. Folks will be more likely work there, and move in if there is direct train service. It is about looking toward the future.

Right now maybe that bus is filled when there's a show at the Jacob Javitts - I remember the old PC-Expo days. But if there's no shows, no riders. However if the new development is built, then there will be plenty of riders. Besides it appears that the 34th Street cross-town bus will remain.
