One solution, which I've mentioned before, would be to ramp the el underground just north of Astoria Blvd., build a new underground Ditmars station (with 3 tracks), and then run a 2-track underground extension to the airport.There would be several benefits to north Astoria residents: 1.Eliminaton of street congestion, and more air and light, at Ditmars. 2. A new station wold be built closer to the bus line at Ditmars (the current station is a good 2-city-block equivalent away). 3. The airport trains would run express in peak hours, stopping at Ditmars and Astoria Blvds. Locals would terminate at the center track at the new Ditmars station. 4. There could be 1 or 2 new stations in the Steinway area. |
