There is something very interesting that did go on here, as you are correct, the Canarsie line was supposed to be an el over Wyckoff Ave as originally planned. That also had something to do with why the Myrtle line from Broadway to Wyckoff was built as a local/express configuration, probably in anticipation of traffic fro the Canarsie line too. The tower at Wyckoff also had something to do with that original plan.You are also right, the original layout (prior to the northern end of the el) had the train pass over Palmetto, and around that building with the cupola. and then slowly down a ramp next to palmetto St, and finally meeting Palmetto St around Cypress Ave. I don't know anything about a "temporary" connection, as youmentioned, but I am curious if you ever hear anything more. |
