Thanks. I agree wholeheartedly about the railfaning. Is there any other place that has so much going through the flat junctions at Van Buren/Wabash and at Lake/ Wells. In the old days, the platforms at many of the Loop stations were twice as long to allow two trains to berth at the same time. I bet this was taken into consideration when the State ST subway was constructed with the worlds longest continuous platform. The new Loop signaling that's being put in includes wayside signals with track trips to augment the cab signals and allow trains to close in, thus increasing the capacity of the two Loop tracks. When the Orange and Brown lines get throughrouted, that'll relieve pressure on two sides of the Loop, but not the two junctions. Putting the Purple in the subway would bring some relief all around.
