Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Wed Nov 18 23:07:23 2009 This is the final part!! (A 56K warning has been issued!! lol) Off to Penn!! No time to waste, let's do this!!Outta Stamford, a Hippo and Tubes greets and meets at CP 233..... Meeting a "Tomato Can" at high speed west of Old Greenwich..... CP 223 "PIKE"..... Indicator light for the Harrison Phase Break..... Does anyone know what this sign on CAT 156 denotes?? (This does not appear in ANY MNR Operations materials!!) CP 216 "SHELL"..... Now this is a true first for me!! Instead of the right turn at SHELL, I FINALLY get to go left!! Metro-North ownership and control ends a short distance west of here, and we are welcomed to Amtrak New York (Metropolitan) Division territory, under the watchful control of Section A Dispatcher at P.S.C.C. (Penn Station Control Center CTEC) in New York..... "Approach Medium" (NORAC 282)..... Damn vandal scum!! Totally tagged the Amtrak New York (Metropolitan) Division sign!! Low lifes!! >:-(..... Manor Interlocking, diverging from Track 1 to Track 2, "Limited Clear" (NORAC 281C, bottom green flashing)..... Automatic 17.1, "Clear" (NORAC 281), Pelham Manor (there was once 6 tracks thru this stretch during the NH days!!)..... "ENABLE TILT" (Eastward at or a little west of this point, an Acela will "DISABLE" tilt)..... Bartow (City Island) Station..... Pelham Bay Drawbridge & Interlocking, Co-Op City..... The CSX Oak Point Running Track diverges off to the left at Pelham Bay Interlocking (left track in picture), and note the old semaphore blades still in places!!..... Remnants of the Eastchester (Einstein Medical Center) Station, stairs lead down to Eastchester Road, another stairway out of view behind Track 1..... Bronx River Drawbridge..... Westchester Avenue Station (quick shot!!)..... We now begin to see a LOT of trash container COFC cars laid up along the Oak Point Running Track, and the Hunts Point Market branch diverges off behind the trash cars in the first pic..... (I bet it smells REAL nice out here for this flagger!!) Hunts Point Avenue Station..... Oak Point Yard, where we now find 3GS21B Gen-Sets 1305 & 1304 hustling "Da' Trash" about the yard..... Lots of trash cars lined the tracks here so there was nothing more to see, but Amtrak MOW was out in force!!..... "BUNGAY"..... CSX Oak Point Link diverges and heads the low route under the Hell Gate Line on the left, also far left the CSX Fremont Secondary parallels us to the Hell Gate (note the difference in Amtrak's track standard compared to CSX's)..... Welcome to the Hell Gate Bridge!!..... (This is where I receive an ill-timed heartbreak, to put it lightly!! Just as I was getting ready to get the nice, inside-the-arch shots, my nice lil 8 GB memory card decides to have a set of write errors, and my shots went bust!! >:-( This was supposed to be THE SHOT of this set!!! I still have not mentally recovered!! :-( ) Welcome to Queens!! (NOW it decides to work properly!! :-p)..... Ditmars Blvd Station (N), as seen from the approach..... Bowery Bay Junction (CSX Fremont Secondary breaks off on the left, "DS" signs above designate a power dead section in the catenary)..... Gate Interlocking, where we cross back to Track 2...... Now along the LIRR to Penn, passing thru Harold Interlocking..... Sssssssssssssssseven to Main Street!!!..... "LINE 4 WEST", "Clear" (NORAC 281)..... WHOOOOOSHHhhhhh!! (The reflection is the MNR supervisor observing)..... And we have made it!! New York Penn Station!! Track 14 for arrival!! Smooth ride!! Fast ride!! AWESOME, KICK ASS RIDE!!! :-D (with a thumbs up!!) Another Multi arrives from NJ..... As LIRR M-7s arrive in from West Side Yard..... And a Hippo is at rest on Track 13!!..... And this concludes one bad ass ride into Penn on NJT/MNR Train #3141!! Now, the train awaits the NJT crew who will take it to NJ (the MNR crew are out of view down the platform awaiting the relief from the NJT crew). Thanks so much for joining in on this little venture!! I hope all have enjoyed!! :-) |
