And not a word of this on TV. DOT has always been clueless. They just finished a 7 year traffic study in Gravesend and Coney Island, and no one likes most of their recommendations which show little knowledge of the area they were studying. They call themselves "engineers" yet many of their recommendations only add to congestion not relieve it.

Mayor Bloomberg campaigned under the promise that he would "fix up" the MTA. Maybe he needs to start with his own agency. He promised free crosstown buses if elected saying the savings in boarding time would pay for any lost revenue. Now a few days after the election, he has already back-tracked, saying it would cost too much and needs further study. Also he has refused to increase the City's contribution to the MTA budget.
