Just from the photos above the pace of construction looks impressive. They get done in 3 months what takes a year in LA.Excavation of the tunnel actually began a little more then 3 weeks ago. The first elevated column was poured back in late August. Construction progress is about par for the course when compared to previous metrorail segments. Being that there are 3 elevated segments in this phase of the N route Silver line, and all of these elevateds are going to be constructed using segmented post tension precast concrete. I wonder how many segment positioning rigs they plan on using. The final segment of the original 103 mile system (Southern F Route Green line) has 2 elevated segments that have a combined length, roughly 2/3 the length of the longest segment on this phase of the N Route Silver line. The contractor only used one segment positioning rig on that project. It is my opinion, when all is said and done, most of the time spent on this project will have been spent jumping through all of the National Environmental Policy Act hoops. The first public workshops were back 1999, The first proposals released to spur public interest in the project were back in 1998. Actual construction on the first phase began this past March, projected completion of Phase I is 2013. No start date has been set for Phase II. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |
