The tubes were upgraded, fire pipes installed, new signals installed, and suddenly the trains were flying through at 50+ mph, way before CBTC and R143s. Alas, the poor #7 riders, stuck with tubes that have 20 mph speed limits. Most other under-river tubes have standard 35 mph speeds.
