When I was taught the trade in 1967 or so, the ruling was (and it still is) that if the last letter of the abbreviation is the same as the last letter of the full word, then there is no full stopI don't recall this in practice when I was not living in the USA. This never used to be standard for English, too. (Note the "St." in the map I hotlinked, as well.) |
