Actually there certainly is proof, since when the R-42s and 44s were delivered each group,of cars was limited to a small number of routes. The cars on the A, AA and B lines only had signs for those lines. The R-40Ms and 42s that were assigned to the EE, GG and N Lines only had signs for those lines etc. Therefore of the r-42s on the A line had the proper signs, then its obvious that they were assigned to that line. By the way when the R-16s were new, 50 of them (I believe 6300 - 6349) were assigned to the A Line and remained there till at least 1958 to make up for the R-10s that were temporarily assigned to the BMT Eastern Division. |
