Don't forget that until 1988, the A ran express only during rush hours, and that it used filthy graffitti covered cars which crept through some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Brooklyn. The allure of a fast, clean run from JFK to Manhattan which bypassed all the bad neighborhoods was worth the extra $$$. |
