I know this is a bit off-topic, but thanks to Tunnel Rat and randyo, I now know that there was a layup track east of the Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights station. This layup track was on that ramp up to the unused upper level, trackless tunnel. In the interlocking machine in the station tower, there are spare levers for the necessary signals and switches. If you look carefully, you can see where the track was once displayed on the model board, but have been painted out. The unused trackless ramp leading to the S/B track, there is a homeball signal "D1-1415" which has the lower portion lenses covered over. That layup track was obviously there when the IND Roosevelt Avenue station was the last stop on the Queens Blvd Line from 1933 to when the line was extended to Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station in 1936. In late 1936 or early 1937 is when the Jamaica Yard was opened, and that layup track was taken out. What's funny about this is that the ramp leading to the S/B track east of Roosevelt Avenue was built for the IND Second System. I don't know where that layup track ended. Another interesting note is that the unused upper level Roosevelt Avenue station was built for 8 cars of the 60ft train cars (R1/9's anyone?).
