The trouble is he does not manufacture the t-shirts but rather had the design for sale on Cafepress. Unfortunately whenever a lawyer says "jump", Cafepress asks "how high"...

The real problem is that the profits made from that site are miniscule and not worth hiring a lawyer to defend. I just found it hilarious that our MTA would send a letter fighting over symbols that belong to San Francisco's MTA.

MUNI appears to not be defending its trademarks as vigorously. Various souvenirs and products containing their logos and route symbols are sold. There is a lot of MUNI stuff on Cafepress and other sites. And unlike our MTA that is trying to declare copyright over raw data, SFMUNI is freely releasing its schedule information to all developers.
