Howard Beach has two (non-emergency) exits: One to the long-term parking lot, and another that leads to the subway station and the surrounding Howard Beach community. Only this exit has the fare gates which require people to pay to exit the system. There are two sets of fare gates here. One for those exiting to the Howard Beach neighborhood (where $5 is collected), and another that leads directly into the subway paid zone (where $7.25 is collected).
