The purpose of this and most civil lawsuits is twofold:1) To punish defendants with civil judgments and/or forfeiture for the wrong done against the plaintiff, 2) To force defendants and other individuals or corporations to change their behavior in the future, to avoid a recurrence of the wrong specified in the lawsuit. A related aim of civil litigation is to demonstrate by example, what can happen to you if you engage in behaviors that precipitated the original lawsuit. |
