Since these officers were acting outside the scope of their legitimate authority, what a judge would need to do if and when the verdict comes down against them is to specifically prohibit either the MTA, the NYPD or the City of NY from indemnifying the offending officers and make the officers pay out of their own pockets without any burden on the taxpayers whatsoever. Even if the money is only garnisheed from their paychecks over a period of time, every time the officers see that amount deducted from their paychecks, it will be a constant reminder of their malfeasance!

That was my thinking when I made the post you responded to, however I would a go step farther. Place a lean on his property, investment and retirement accounts to pay any and all damage awards. Make an example of him so he and others will know better not to do the same.
