Well the slants weren't my favorite cars but I did enjoy riding them on express runs. They were fun to ride at speed. The slants used to remind me of the BART cars due to their slanted ends. I wonder why the didn't build the R40s into 5 car sets? If they did, maybe there wouldn't be a need for the pantograph gates at the ends. :)I'm rather indifferent on the retirement of the R40 compared to the retirement of the R32 and R42s. Looking at them today with the duct tape and rust, it seems like their time has come. |
