Back when the Bway Thru Exp operated, the markers were red/red for a regular Bway Exp and red/yellow for the Bway Thru Exp. Before the mid 1970s IRT and all divisions' markers were different from what they were towards the end of marker usage. After 1959 when the so called Bway "Local Exp" was operated the markers were: V/C -S/F local both directions R/R, "Local Exp" Y/R, Dyckman- S/F both directions G/R and 137 - S/F both directions W/R. The "local Exp" service operated S/B in the AM rush only and initially skipped 191, 181, 157 and 145 Sts. Not too long after the initial service patter, the service was changed so that the Lcl Exps skipped 215, 207, 157 and 145 sts and stopped at 191 and 181 St due to the presence of Geo Washington H S at 191 and the large number of buses from the Bronx dropping off their passengers at 181 St. In the mid 1970s, the marker light system was completely revamped so that all trains bound for a particular destination displayed the same markers regardless of their point of origin.
