Considering more than one cop was there I'd say the car was on the track for a while. I'm wondering if the police made any effort to have the train stopped. I'm sure even in a rural area like that "Barney Fife" should know a way to contact the dispatchers. And although it probably wouldn't have done any good I'm surprised that no officer ran down the track to flag down the train. Then again someone might have and it wasn't in the picture.I remember a couple of times when I had a train stopped. In the 111 Pct we were once looking for an armed gunman in the Port Wash. Line weeds just E/O the Cross Island and had all LIRR trains stopped before reaching there. Also, as a sgt in the 81, we suspected a perp got on an E/B "A" train at Utica & Fulton after robbing someone on the street and had the train not open it's doors at Bway Junction to have the complainant look through the train. (with negative results)
