Speaking of outside catwalks, I was surprised to see the recent photos of the Chicago El where there are no outside catwalks, just like the Atlantic Avenue elevated LIRR.It's always a little jarring to be under the elevated Atlantic Avenue section and have an LIRR train above you sticking out over the structure. It looks like the engineer sits over the street, not over the structure. Even though catwalks wouldn't prevent the train from falling, their absence makes everything look scarier. |
