I have seen Eastern European railways change locos in, literally, 60 seconds flat. The instant the incoming train stops the shunter-type person jumps off the platform and has the coupling and hoses/electrical cables unhitched. The loco then speeds away, the points/switch changes and the ready-and-waiting replacement loco appears and buffers up to the stock. Reconnect all the above and it's job done. They don't seem to have much regard for health and safety-type legislation though.
