Unless of course the Oyster Bay passengers want to go to Merillion Av or New Hyde Park.But I agree with you. Jamaica is a better transfer point than Mineola. And I have a selfish railfan reason for liking the trains to go to Jamaica. When I use the LIRR (which isn't often as I usually drive to Queens and take the subway) I use Mineola and I'd much rather take the diesel trains.
