LIRR doesn't seem to run 4-car EMU trains in service anymore, at least since the M7s got in, and maybe well before that; I've been on a 6 car peak train on the branch and that wasn't pretty. There's no third rail too; I don't know whether you could add it without making adjustments at the substation or not.Plus the configuration of BAY makes it very awkward move. Tk 2 handles e/b service, and for an e/b terminating at Bayside, it's a reverse move that's going to tie up service on the entire branch. Considering all of these changes' cost (third rail, maybe extend ASC, re-do BAY, extend tracks), it's worth exploring if it's not just more bang for the buck to build a new yard east of BAY. |
