Because they are needed for everyday service till there are enough R160's on the property. All they are doing is keeping them running. Maybe Jamaica barn will retire that pair if they diagnose that they should be put out of their misery sooner rather than later. I'll keep my eyes open. Those R42's had it easy for a while at ENY, then came to Jamaica to get pounded with E line high mileage due to lots of service on the line. They can joint the other basket cases in storage at Pitkin Yard. 4712/13 were transfered to Jamaica well after higher numbered cars were transfered and they didn't last long at all. Same thing when 4590/91 were transfered from Pitkin service to Jamaica and they seem to be pending retirement, they are buried on 66 or 68 track. Why do you think they're not painting the roofs and replacing the glass? |
