Or worse still, sentences full of unexplained acronyms. I spotted this gem in the opening para of an article in the current edition of Today's Railways Europe: "Once owned by the legendary company CFD, the works is now part of VFLI, a subsidiary of SNCF." The CFD may have been legendary to the article's author, but I haven't a clue what it (or the VFLI for that matter) is.
