A few years ago, I noticed a similar error on the south side of Elmhurst Street Station. Apparently some time in the past the original "8" tile of 82nd Street had been damaged and was replaced by a blank white tile. The result was that the sign directed people to "2 Street". I notified them of the error and they temporarily painted an "8" that looked like it was stenciled in the tile. I think that would have been good enough but they actually manufactured a real matching "8" tile which they installed three months later. Today, it looks like it always has been there.
