Isn't that "punitive damages" as opposed to "compensatory damages"?Trainsarefun could answer better, but my understanding is that you have to at least have been wronged by some way in order to sue. You can't sue on behalf of someone else that doesn't want to sue for example. So I think that you get awarded at least some monetary compensation even if the punitive amount is much more. |
