At one time there was a spur between Pleasant Plains and Mount Loretto. SIRT would run special trains there on Sunday. The spur was non-electrified so the ME-1's would be hauled by a steam loco. This lasted at least until 1939.

There is a picture of this train in the booklet "Staten Island Rapid Transit" (1965) by Paul Matus.
