Say what ?....... they don't look all that old for an early retirement.Supposedly, their construction dates to 1990-91 or so, but it seems that NJT is just uninterested in performing overhaul work on them. Some railfans have alleged that the difficulties with the Comet II overhauls have basically scared off NJT from doing anymore overhauls on cabcars. Plus, I personally suspect that NJT isn't interested in doing an overhaul for only 52 cars (11 cab cars and 41 trailers) which is small compared to the Comet II (161 cars), Comet IV (99 cars), Comet V (200 cars), and MLVs (IIRC, 329 cars if one includes the 50-car CIII replacement). |
