Primarily lower weight, which is as you know, happier for the track. The inboard design was also supposed to result in less stress in the center of the axles by bringing the "load" further in, and allegedly the wheels and brake rigging themselves get more air circulation which helps keep the temperatures a bit lower. Funny though how the inboard doesn't seem to be working out as well in the real world as the theories suggested. :) |
