AHA!!!! I see now, it is quite simple. You used the Joystick components(circuit board) THEMSELVES to turn the resistance into USB signals. I missd that part.
I should hav read this:
"Went and bought a cheapass old joystick just to get the USB circuit board inside it. Joysticks use two 100k ohm potentiometers, one for X axis, one for Y axis (and others I don't need).
