Thanks for another fine photo tour Mike.You mentioned the 132kv being divided to plus and minus 66kv. Those stacks of boxy doo dads in the front row at Safe Harbor are 330 ohm resistors that connect the center tap of the supply transformers to ground. There was a general feeling up through this era that resistance grounded systems were better because they could continue to run despite a single short to ground. But longer experience showed lightning and fault detection problems with this approach and it fell out of favor for transmission circuits. PRR’s circuits are a left over practice. The new frequency changer at Richmond is actually 2 separate 66kv converters to get this center connection point. Bill |
