An explanation I heard (I do not remember the source) was that MBTA was concerned about salt water fouling the third rail, or about flooding potential. Since the A train crossing the water to the Rockaways also has that problem, I am skeptical of it, but that's what I heard.My understanding is that there were problems with freezing along the Atlantic ave. El so the concerns were rational. |
