Explain RON..why the ARCHER AVENUE AND 63RD st lines started decaying RIGHT AFTER THEY WERE COMPLETED..So much so that whole track beds had to be rebuilt..signals replaced..fans replaced...crew rooms with backed up toilets and so forth...bettcha can't do it...Jim Dwyer's subway lives tells a tale of the construction of 63rd. Inspectors would be present for the first 3 concrete deliveries of the day and then leave before the 4th, and that 4th delivery would be of a useless material referred to in the book as 'blue stone'. MTA was still being charged for something that would be delivered and dumped immediately, which meant that deliveries had to be extended. The contraction plan is well documented, Although not EVERY branch would've been abandoned. |
