At present time WMATA is only exploiting the train control and signaling system to half its designed capability.Scheduled headways on the combined blue/orange line through dowtown are as short as 2 minutes during the "orange crush" part of the morning rush (orange, orange, blue, orange, orange, blue). That's getting damn clsoe to the design headways, and reality often achieves the scheduled headway. (Obviously any incident at all blows the schedule to hell when every train can see the taillights of the one in front.) |
