I believe it dates to the 1880's. I am sure it was a single track with a siding originally. Also, the pedestrian walkways were right in front of the station buildings too. Until 1998, Oakdale and Sayville (which also have this odd fact) had the walkways right in front of the station building where you crossed the tracks, as did all the other stations with low platforms.The answer is probably a combination of both.... |
