That makes no financial sense. They would not replace equipment if safety and cost of running them weren't issues. These are not the original best in the world subway designed cars like many think they are. You have to face the fact that they are machines. machnines wear out. Rebuilding on stressed out old frames is un-wise. Think about it. PATH is FASTER? Makes no difference. They run in a different system than NYC, which is considered THE BEST IN THE WORLD. Something the PATH can aspire, but hardly ever achieve. You still need to enclose that Journal Square station because it is over-ridden with litter. That makes for a very unappealing ride.
