Conrail junked freight motors because ATK charged them too much for the juice.Actually, it was a combination of outrageous trackage user fees,(as much as 2-1/2 times what the freight railroads charged each other) changing traffic patterns(downgrading, then eliminating Potomac Yard being the biggest example), & few electified routes outside Amtrak's milage that doomed 'em. |
